Spanish Colonial Arts Society is delighted, once again, to be able to celebrate the Hispanic artistic legacy of New Mexico through presenting this summer’s 70th Annual Traditional Spanish Market on the historic Santa Fe Plaza.

Hispanic culture is alive on the Santa Fe Plaza where visitors have the chance to meet with some of the most talented Hispanic artists in the country sharing their knowledge of the many traditional art forms represented at Traditional Spanish Market.

As you converse with Spanish Market artists and purchase their art, you will know you are engaging in an increasingly rare exchange in this era: the unique opportunity to develop a personal relationship with an artist working in a traditional art form that is developed and passed down over generations, oftentimes within the same families.

You can be sure you are purchasing a one-of-a-kind piece of art with its own unique story to tell. As with so many times each year at Market, you may even commission a piece especially for you and find yourself at the beginning of a deeply meaningful relationship that lasts a lifetime.

While at this summer’s Market, you may also run into artists who you first met exhibiting their art at Youth Market and have now moved on to be accepted into Traditional Market. This year and every year Youth Market showcases dozens of young artists who have been mentored by adult Traditional Spanish Market artists in their chosen art category.

These extremely talented and highly skilled youth offer their work for sale and will enthusiastically explain the inspiration behind and process of their extraordinary pieces. Many collectors take great pride in their collections that include works by artists spanning their time as Youth Market artists and later as artists showing at Traditional Spanish Market.

Unlike last year’s necessarily scaled back Market, this year’s Market will have more of everything you have come to enjoy about this longstanding Santa Fe tradition—more artists, more live entertainment on the bandstand, more food vendors, and a return of Traditional Spanish Market.

For those of you who would like to expand your Traditional Spanish Market experience, we invite you to participate in artist open studio tours the week preceding Market during ¡Viva la Cultura!

Spanish Market would not be possible without the ongoing support and involvement of our artists, volunteers, sponsors, and other supporters. And it would not be possible without you, our visitors. In attending this beloved cultural event, you play your own important role in continuing to keep this tradition alive. We give thanks to all of you and look forward to seeing you on the Plaza in July!
