Conexiones: Connections in Spanish Colonial Art ONGOING
Museum of Spanish Colonial Art, galleries
Explore the Spanish colonial art legacy which is rooted in the histories of many diverse people, places and points in time.You will glimpse the daily lives of the unique Hispano cultures that thrive around the world today, including in New Mexico, where Spanish settlers established roots decades before the more celebrated arrival of the English to Jamestown and Plymouth Rock. Early 20th century and contemporary traditional artists' works demonstrate the stylistic and aesthetic evolution between the art of the colonial period and today. Join our trained docents for a tour at 10:30 or 2:30.

New Mexican Embroidery: Tradition and Innovation
Museum of Spanish Colonial Art
Exhibition opening and lecture. Short lecture by Nancy Benson, author of the newly released "New Mexico Colcha Club: Spanish Colonial Embroidery and the Women Who Saved It," to inaugurate the exhibition. The exhibition, prepared by Josie Caruso, guest curator, illustrates examples of the different styles and materials used in embroidery in NM over the last 200 years. A gallery guide supplements the information in this 'vignette' exhibition. Through Sunday, May 17, 2009.
